One by one each kayak is ambushed as it enters the room by the knights and their nets. Splitting the party on opposite sides of the floating river the knights hold swords to the throats of each member, some tangled in the nets used to rip them from the ride. Across the room the leader addresses them, asking why they have ventured this far into the depths of Keraptis’ maze. Dennis quickly recognizes the knight as Sir Bluto Sans Pite, a legendary figure convicted in the River of Blood mass-murder case before disappearing from his cell. It doesn’t take much small talk before EKIM and others in the party see no way out other than a fight.
While Hupp, new greatsword in hand, and Belgwyn focus on Sir Bluto, the rest of the party picks off the other knights easily with half under the hypnotic distraction of Seebo’s spell casting. Landing the several solid blows with the greatsword, Hupp begins to sense pleasure and want for life radiating from the sword in his hand. Eventually Sir Bluto and his knights lay dead on the floor save but one. This last knight provides some additional details to the cave system and his role in ‘cleaning up’ the corridors when adventurers come calling. He describes a stuck door and one door they were told to never venture past in the unexplored portion under the mountain. The party finds little in the room or on the bodies other than a set of keys that open a passageway back to the main corridor on Sir Bluto.
Eventually making their way back to the first intersection of the cave system, Tobin’s Revenge finds the way easier now that the water has drained completely from the passageways. Moving on to the final branch of the caves the party is once again presented with a choice between two doors. Taking the route to the left towards the door the knight said he was not allowed to pass, the party prepares themselves and proceeds to open the door.
Inside they find five flesh golems with numbers written on their chests. Given a riddle regarding the numbers, the party is given one minute to figure out the answer. Fionne is quick to correctly answer and the golem that gave the riddle is now pledged as their companion while beyond this room. In the hallway just past the golem room, the leading members of the party find a revolving wooden turnstile that is only accessible from one side. Figuring out that this would become an obstacle if they needed to make a hasty retreat, they commanded their golem companion to destroy the turnstile. They quickly move past the torn out debris and make their way further down the passageway.
The cave system transitions from dug out dirt to laid stone. Making their way past a set of double doors, they take in an odd sight. They stand in a square room with body sized alcoves along two of the walls. Along the border of the ceiling they observe reliefs of royalty, knights, and soldiers. With much hesitation different members try to investigate the reliefs and alcoves. Finally Fionne becomes impatient and stands in one of the alcoves. Once she turns and places her back against the stone wall, straps eject from behind her, bind her, and a tone slab slams down for the top. Fionne is pure darkness and impossibly separated from her when the sound of stone grinding on stone starts. Fionne senses motion, but is unable to discern direction or speed. The rest of the party listens to the sounds fade away.
Eventually all members of the party pick an alcove and experience the same as Fionne. Eventually Seebo, and Sariel with Belgwyn find themselves dropped from the ceiling into two small galleries on the outside of a square mosaic tiled room. They are unable to enter, their way barred by an invisible barrier. Fionne, Dennis, Faris, Hupp, and EKIM eventually rise out of the floor, each standing a colored tile (the room is diagonally striped with blue, yellow, green, and grey tiles). When the tiles find their place, each one the members occupy turn to white. On the far side of the room is a kingly statue with its hand held out palm down. Each member moves carefully from their starting positions. Some make the move unharmed with the new tile they stand on turning white and the previous returning to the color of the striped pattern. Others find that when they step on a tile it turns red and a blast of lightning strikes them from the ceiling before the tile under them turns white and the previous returning to the color of the striped pattern. After several incorrect moves Dennis falls unconscious, EKIM and Faris are seriously hurt, but Finne and Hupp happen to be making progress. Fionne makes it straight across to the far corner, one tile at a time. Hupp is able to approach the statue and begins to investigate.
Eventually the party decides to strike the statue while the members in the galleries discover the barrier also blocks magic from entering the main chamber. With a keen observation by Sariel, some miming, and pure luck, Hupp depresses the cross on the shield chiseled to the base of the ruined statue. A compartment opens revealing two magical potions, all the tiles in the room turn white, and the gallery barriers drop. Seebo falls into the room as he is pressed against the magical barrier. The party tends to the unconscious Dennis in the middle of the room. They now have to decide if the push forward for the warhammer is worth the beating they are taking.
