A little summary.
With the conclusion of Lost Mine of Phandelver, or part one of The Shatter Obelisk depending on how you want to see it, our former DM had decided to trade his seat at the table. Over the last couple of sessions Tobin’s Revenge had worked their way through Wave Echo Cave, culminating in a battle between the party and the Black Spider. In the heat of the battle one party member, Tethren, surprisingly disappeared and took their foe the Black Spider with him. Excited to have vanquished the dragon Venomfang again but confused at the actions of Tethren, the remaining members of Tobin’s Revenge began the trek back out of Wave Echo Cave. Along the way they ran into the odd human wizard and adjunct professor from Baldur’s Gate Dennis Johnson who is currently researching ‘dungeoneering’. Thus began their grand new adventure spanning as much of the Sword Coast, Toril, or beyond that their hearts desire.
After resting in the Forge of Spells the party began their attempt to leave Wave Echo Cave. They encountered Mormesk the Wraith learning that the Black Spider had taken something from him. Seebo braved the fungus cavern while the remainder of the party went around. Traveling back to Phandalin the party encountered a small band of goblins, one of which was different from any goblin they had encountered. Dennis gleaned that its strange powers felt similar to that of an illithid.
Phandalin is in bad shape. The party discovers the keeper of their manor has been hard at work, but Reidoth has left suddenly. Reuniting Gundren and Nundro has paid off dividends of 10% of the mine’s take once it is up and running. An account has been established at Barthen’s Provisions for now. Discussion with Sildar and Harbin lead to several discoveries.
- There are rumors of a white dragon in the area. Sildar asked for help in ensuring that Axeholm is made secure so the townsfolk have a place of refuge if necessary.
- Harbin has shown his true cowardness. He knows of recent crimes at Barthen’s, the Shrine of Luck, the Sleeping Giant, and the Miner’s Exchange. He has been too afraid to investigate himself, Yeemik has been driven off out of fear of the new goblins in the area, and Pete seems to be alof.
- Sildar also delivers news of Tethren. He came to the town several days ahead of the party, turning over a man he referred to as the Black Spider. Unfortunately the Black Spider disappeared from custody the following night. Tethren left behind a letter, a map, and a wooden block.
The party split up and investigated the Sleeping Giant and Barthen’s. Groz, EKIM, Belgwyn, and Dennis encounter a small band of psionic goblins during their investigation of the Sleeping Giant. Two got away. Seebo and Sylla investigated Barthen’s and discovered from Anders that the now damaged well previously had given him nightmares when he drank from it. The well is now dry.
Seebo, Sylla, and Sariel have set up camp at the well with a warning trap in place. The rest of the party has retired to their newly repaired manor.
