The flash of light from the teleporter fades to reveal a circular room with a warm fire in the middle and the partial skeleton of an adult dragon laid out on the floor. It’s also full of cultists. The members of Tobin’s Revenge have very little time to take in the room itself as the several hooded figures turn to regard them just before rushing the group. Hupp is able to counter the closest attacker and quickly vanquish them to the thirst of Blackrazor. He notices that these hooded attackers are definitely cultists but without any of the regalia of ranked members. One of these cultists is able to break the party’s lines and reach the teleporter markers on the wall. He pushes the rectangle symbol and whisks himself plus half the party away.
Seebo, Dennis, Divad, Belgwyn, and EKIM find themselves in another room, still circular but with more cultists and a rectangular slab in the middle. The bones of two dragon arms surround the slab. Seebo, not liking his new surroundings, takes a page out of the cultists book and presses the chair symbol on the wall. The five companions, the first cultist, and now two more from the second room, are teleported to a much more confined room with balconies and a sitting area. Dennis, not to be out matched, presses the triangle symbol and once again shifts this group of maybe unwilling figures out to the sundial garden at the base of the tower. With no more symbols to push the group now needs to deal with their stowaways.
The party is split, but still far more powerful than the groups of cultists attempt to impede their progress. The group in the garden returns to the inside of the tower via the flame symbol once again and finds their companions already in the midst of investigating the room. After removing some teeth from the skeleton it is decided to investigate the room linked to the chair symbol as EKIM had noticed a dead body on the floor between the quick teleportations. Returning to the room Hupp uses his deft jumping skills to check out the upper balconies. Unfortunately the only thing of interest in this room is the ranked cultist body, killed by a dragon tooth dagger. The group presumes she was killed by their contact as he fled from the outer balcony on their approach.
Returning their attention to the symbols on the wall and perhaps beginning to understand the mechanism, they chose a new symbol thinking either an ambush is set in rooms they’ve already been, or that the cultists have moved on and want to attempt to surprise them. They chose the star symbol and subsequently found themselves in a room with a large brass contraption in the middle. Given the astronomy and astrology books laid open on the table some members deduct that the device is for studying the stars. Unfortunately, no one in the party can figure out how to move or otherwise operate the device. They are about to learn that they are not alone.
At the far side of the room is a door that the group pays very little attention to, having heard nothing on the other side. The door now flings open with three cultists rushing various members and a fourth vanishing from sight. The three cultists are quickly dispatched, but the now invisible mage is proving quite competent in his lone assault. First hitting the bunched group with a cone of ice spell and then the blast of a fireball while protecting himself by closing the door. Sariel is the lone member to avoid the fireball completely as she had wildshaped into a giant constricting snake in the hopes to find the invisible foe. She found him indeed, being in the smaller room when he used it for cover, but how to let her companions know where to hit.
The rest of the group rushes the room finding the snake shaking its tail roughly in the direction of the mage, but Dennis is upset and maybe confused. He returns the favor, and to the detriment of his fellow adventurers, blasts the small room with a fireball of his own. The mage does not reappear and Sariel drops her wildshape form. At least now she can properly inform the group where she last saw the mage. Several try to land blows, but it is Rethap and EKIM that are able to strike, slaying the mage before he can make his next move. Based on his clothes, they assume this is the leader of this separatist cult group Jorgen Pawl. Searching his robes they find an hourglass shaped white stone.
It is an easy connection to make between the white stone and the hourglass shape on the wall. Apply the stone to the shape the teleporter activates and shifts the party to a new part of the tower. The room is no longer circular and is much smaller. They assume they are in some sort of underground dungeon. About the floor are the bodies of several cultists and a blood trail down the hallway. Two of the cultists were slain by magic, but the one connected to the blood trail has several large gashes on his body. Moving down the hallway the group approaches a gory scene.
The room is occupied by two large earth creatures and a single fire creature in the far corner. They all regard the group in the hallway, but make no move towards or away. The whole of the room’s floor is covered in old and new blood smears. To the group’s left is another hallway with bloody footprints heading away. They decided to forgo a confrontation and run past the creatures in the direction of the footprints, hoping the lack of much larger footprints mean the creatures won’t follow. They assumed right this time.
Next they find themselves on a bridge of sorts. The rest of the room is a neverending expanse of stars and blackness. Small meteors flit in all directions. One by one they attempt the crossing, though Faris is the sole member to cross unfazed. He is hit by one of the meteors and thrown off the walkway. As the party watches their companion immediately fall from sight, the lone adventurer eventually lands hard on the top of table in the middle of a library. He quickly composes himself, ignore the room details, and opens the single door. He finds himself in the same hallway at the beginning of the bridge. His crossing this time is less eventful.
The group continues their exploration with a focus on tracking the bloody footprints. They enter a room with two large hourglasses held by chains. In the far corner of the room the blood trail ends at the motionless body of the figure they recognize from the balcony. In his hands is the blue dragon mask they seek. Not wanting to linger too long in a state of near exhaustion, the group forgoes a final room with a large figure meditating in the center. Seebo falls prey to the meteors on the return crossing, finding himself in the same library as Faris. He does take a quick moment to look around the room, snagging a map from the table before running straight into his companions on the other side of the door. Rushing past the creatures once more, the group uses the flame symbol, as the triangle is missing in the dungeon, to return to the first room and subsequently use the triangle symbol there to return to the garden.
The day is coming to a close as the sun sets on the far side of the village, but it is not a quiet evening. Immediately the adventurers take in screams of fright from the village. Looking upon the village there is destruction throughout. In the sky, masked by the sunset behind, a large flying creature swoops down before moving their way. The group runs towards the danger, hoping to help the village if they can. As they leave the garden, a large blue dragon lands on the roof of the closest building. With a roar he announces that all he wants is the mask, and he will spare the villagers. He claims there is nothing that can be done to stop the return of his queen and the party should just give up their resistance.
